What Is Smishing?

Smishing is a form of phishing that uses text messages instead of emails. Although the format is different, the threat is the same. Within text messages, hackers include links that they urge users to follow in order to resolve a situation. The links appear as though they come from legitimate organizations, when, in fact, the entire thing is fraudulent. Once a user responds with the requested information––passwords, account numbers, etc.––the hacker will be able to access the user’s accounts.
